Camping at home.

After the huge success of The Great British Camp Out NHS fundraiser, lots of people have been heading to their vans to camp out on driveways and in garages!

If you’re planning on taking a holiday a bit closer to home soon, we’ve come up with some ways you can add to the fun and make it feel more real…

Set up a cosy campsite

Grab your sleeping bags, pillows, blankets, glowsticks, fairy lights… whatever you like to make your van as comfy and cosy as possible. If you’ve got a garden, you could even set up some tents and a campfire to make it feel like a proper campsite!

Time for some proper grub

Whether it’s beans on toast, hotdogs or a good old-fashioned chilli, cook up some authentic campervan cuisine that will make it feel like you’re away somewhere. Snacks are also a great way to do this – think hot chocolate, crisps etc.. Use plastic plates and cutlery to add to the experience (and minimise the washing up!)

Games and activities

If the weather is good and you’ve got some space outside the van, you could play games like Front Lawn Twister or go on a scavenger hunt like this one. If you’re fairly active, why not host your own Family Olympics or a sports tournament?

If it’s raining outside or you don’t have a garden, some board games or card games in the van can be just as fun. And when it starts to get dark, you could tell campfire stories like these to each other!

Night at the movies

If you just want curl up and watch a film, a little portable TV set will do just fine… but if you want to go all out, you could also invest in a projector, hang up a sheet and create a drive-in movie night!

No kids allowed

If it’s just the grown-ups, you could crack open a bottle of wine and gaze at the stars… or whatever people in love do these days!
