New pictures of the Volkswagen ID Buzz all-electric campervan

Pictures have been released of the new Volkswagen ID Buzz range out for testing in the Austrian Alps.

The all-electric campervan and commercial vehicle are due for release late 2022.

Here’s a sneak peek at the photos and what we know about the Buzz so far…

The Volkswagen ID Buzz in pictures

The new Buzz will take design inspiration from the oh-so-retro Type 2 microbus of the 50s but it will still have a space-age interior.

Volkswagen said it “transfers a Microbus feeling into the future” and judging from these pictures they’re not wrong!

At first glance, the ID Buzz seems to have a deep windscreen and rounded bodywork. VW have said it will be smaller than a full-sized Cali.

It’s likely that you’ll be able to choose two-tone colour options, which would look amazing with a set of Jackyards seat covers!

These latest pictures look like the ‘Cargo’ model, which lacks the second and third rows of seats to give it plenty of room in the back.

The headlights look like thin units rather than big round lamps and the bumper has a small mesh grill at the bottom, which could be housing driving assistance sensors…

The interior will probably similar to previous Volkswagen ID models and will include a digital display and central infotainment system.

The new ID Buzz should also come with light tech that changes colours when you’re using navigation, the voice assistant or need to charge it.

What about the power?

Volkswagen has already confirmed the ID Buzz range will use batteries from 48kWh up to 111kWh, giving it a range of up to 340ish miles.

It’s believed that the campervan will be rear-wheel drive like its predecessors, the ID3 and ID4. This version will have a limited top speed of 99mph but a four-wheel drive model is expected too.

When can I order a Volkswagen ID Buzz?

Both the van and commercial vehicle should be available late next year. Prices have yet to be announced but it’s expected that they will cost over £50,000 (the price of a Volkswagen Caravelle).
